For Immediate Release. August 4, 2014: Just in time for the back to school rush, commercial foodservice equipment wholesaler and distributor KECdesign announces Grand Re-Opening Week of KECresco, a warehouse showroom at 301 Mercury Dr. #2 in Champaign, August 18–22.
KECresco is a division of KECdesign, established to meet the needs of foodservice operators who want the walk-in convenience of buying smallwares and supplies locally. KECresco is the new name for the former Proctor’s Restaurant Equipment & Supply Co, which closed its doors on the University Ave location in November of 2013 after 62 years of business. Says, Dan Proctor, KECdesign’s principle, “My father opened RESCO on University Avenue in 1952, and my brother Scott took it over in the early 70s. When he decided to retire last year it was a great opportunity for us to keep the business in the family and grow an important market niche for KECdesign– smallwares & supplies.” Consumers include chains and independent restaurants, bars, coffee shops, student housing, and many other business and institutional customers who seek an unparalleled breadth and depth of industry experience.
Three employees from the University Ave store were absorbed by KECdesign, as was the inventory, which was moved to KEC’s headquarters. Proctor adds, “Long time customers will see the same experienced staff they dealt with for years on University Ave, and that’s a win-win for everybody.” Familiar faces in the showroom include Brian Russell, Tod Roberts and Kyle Duckworth along with seasoned KECdesign staff members Kurt Fenner and Jeni Hale. The area’s only CFSP (certified foodservice professional) Steve Smith, and long-time restaurateur Margaret Carson are both a part of the team as well.
The RESCO acronym known to customers throughout the area, was retained and rebranded with the KEC family of companies. The warehouse showroom is a ‘grab and go’ shopping experience with most stock items on shelves rather than in the warehouse. Brian Russell, long time Proctor’s RESCO employee and purchasing manager adds, “our inventory levels are high and we’re ready for the back to school rush.” RESCO’s busy season was typically during the month of August when area schools and colleges stock up on foodservice equipment and supplies. “We just want to let everybody know that we’re still here – but in a new location.” KECresco still offers free local delivery. Orders are taken now by phone, email and text.
KECdesign has doubled its size in the past year and now employs more than 30 people from its office, warehouse and showroom location on Mercury Drive in Champaign.
KECresco’s warehouse showroom is located at 301 Mercury Dr. #2, under the second black awning. Hours of operation are M-F 8am – 5pm, and by appointment. Email firstname.lastname@example.org or call 217-352-3556, the number Proctor’s RESCO used since 1952.
